Stella Maris, Long Island …once again on the World Map!

Summer is in full swing, we are enjoying our hot temperatures and Long Island is buzzing with all sorts of activities …”Pirates of the Caribbean” having just departed from their 10day film shoot here on Long Island and once again putting Stella Maris on the world map – so look out for the sequel ….”Deadman’s Chest” – we are sure it will be as exciting as the first movie. On their one day off … Pirates, Tony and Chris gave our Bones a shot …mean as snakes they look and lucky they were!

Pirates of Caribbean Tony and Chris

As we speak, we are in final preparations for the wedding weekend extravaganza for Kelly and Spencer – and what fun that will be with all sorts of island entertainment planned including a Rum Punch Party, a Cave Party, a Pool & Beach Party and ending with a romantic afternoon wedding ceremony on the Caribbean followed by a Bahamian buffet style dinner reception with live reggae tunes at the Stella Maris Resort. A young and energetic group counting down the days to sun, sand, fun and fishing! We’ll keep you posted in our next newsletter …we have some wedding Guests with very high expectations of making our Hall of Fame Album! Our fingers are crossed for you guys! June is still wide open!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEWEST HALL OF FAME MEMBERS!

Hall of Fame’s May members, Kenny and Dr. Kaihlanen, just departed from their weeks stay at the Cape Santa Maria Resort caught some beautiful Long Island Bones between them! Well done Gentlemen, great catches and certainly a pleasure fishing with you!! Mr. Lad Rubaum, our Hall of Fame pick for April, probably one of my favorite pictures …simply charming, the two of them, I can put it no other way!

While we boast continuously that fishing is fun ...and it certainly is as we will always think so and as 100% of our pictures will portray, keep in mind that this is for us a full time job. It is our daily job AND our livelihoods AND our passion. We run a tight ship as any of our clients can verify! Our boats, equipment and tackle shop are up to date, spic and span and ready to go – just as the guides who are taking you out, either Docky or Elli. As we like to represent our company to the best of our abilities and in our best interest, YES ….our guides are clean, they smell good and their fishing attire is top of the line, our fishing clients today expecting NO less of us. My point now being, and humor me a little cause I do have to get this off my chest, …to the gentleman who seems like he has nothing to do but check out my husbands wardrobe, YES, damn right, my husband is clean as a whistle and looks sharp when he goes to work – DON’T YOU??? I wonder what you would post on the internet if Docky came to a full days work smelling like last nights cave party, oil stains on his shirt and holes in his pants? Make no mistake my friend, Docky is one the best guides out there, his abilities for guiding and fishing are proven. His clients return every year to fish with him and only him. His shirts and pants are ironed, by the way, thanks to me, his lovely wife! We may be simple island people, but we still like to dress appropriately for our days work and respect those who spend lots of money hiring us. I am positive that everybody else appreciates this fact. I (the wife) thought it necessary to set this record straight! Careful buddy, go below the belt line and this gentle pieces lady will turn into a mean Tiger Shark!

Docky and Tony Paskevich

…and because I do have some humor, a latest snap shot of Docky looking sharp as always fishing with Tony Paskevich! Thanks to Tony and Ham Bigger for these pictures and your kind letter!

And while there will always be those one or two prickly thorns in the world ….fortunately 99.9% of our fishing clients are some of our best buddies in the world and they keep coming back for more …..most especially mother and daughter team… Summer and Toni from the Keys always taking time out to fish for Bones in the Bahamas and enjoying every minute … not just the beaches, the water, the Conch and Crawfish salad ….but most important the fishing and the people and the guide they love!

Summer and Toni Bennet

We have a long list of repeat clients and that word ‘client’ is actually very much inappropriate, ‘FRIENDS’ is the better word! Included in that group is certainly, Mr. Brian Curpier, of AOPA, always coming back every year to catch his Bones and to enjoy Long Island!

Love Beach BungalowsWhat else is new?? ……well, check out the Stella Maris Resort website: www.stellamarisresort.com for exciting and luxurious new accommodation possibilities THE LOVE BEACH BUNGALOWS:…brand new and available for rental. Wouldn’t you love to spend your afternoon swinging in the pink hammock watching the Atlantic waves and snoozing in the cool breeze? I sure would …along with an icy Margarita and some Shrimp Snacks! Three fabulous Bungalows boasting huge kitchens, a gigantic pool, king beds for everybody and your very own beach and swimming cove …what more could you ask for!? Keep these bungalows in mind for your next family reunion spot …or for those whose wedding bells are ringing!!

Fishing news:
To some insight of what many of you are wondering and questioning on the internet, …our flats on Long Island are NOT closed to DYI anglers, nor is anyone pushing this issue as many of you seem to wrongly think. The flats are open and The Bahamas welcomes wading DYI anglers and will continue to do so. But make no mistake, Bonefish are NOT TO BE CAUGHT AS BAIT for other types of fishing. The Guides will protect their resource.

Spotted on the flats recently, ….huge schools with 2-3hundred Bones …and lurking in between always the bigger ones, always a thrill and always elusive. Also spotted on flats here in the north Long Island, smaller groups of 2-4 Permits …in feeding mode. Permits, of course a harder task to catch – but the fish are here for those who love the challenge!

So all you good friends out there, we wanted to send you sunny Island Greetings …know that we ALWAYS think of you, remember fondly our laughs together and the fun fishing days! We are not the best in keeping in touch on a regular basis because of our jobs and tackle shop and fishing, not to forget our very energetic two ‘bundles of joy’ at home that all do keep us quite busy…but we want you all to know that we do not forget the good times and your patronage

Take it easy …. Thank you for your always continued interest in our fishing and island activities! We wish you all a long and happy summer ...and most of all fantastic fishing days! For those, not knowing us …perhaps not knowing the Bahamas or Long Island, please feel free to write to us and ask any of your questions, we’ll be delighted to hear from you and would love to have you visit! Anytime till mid. August is good for us …then we are hopefully able to take a break from island life and ready for some shopping, the movies and a huge Big Mac on the main land! Write to us!: docky@bonafidebonefishing.com
